Tips
for Frugal Living
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~When you use cornmeal or flour mixtures to coat fish, chicken
or vegetables,
instead of throwing it out
when you're through, put it in the freezer, labeled
plainly, and use it again
the next time. It will stay fresh, and any small pieces
of food left in it won't
spoil, being frozen. Just be sure to use it for the same
thing each time to avoid
cross contamination between items like chicken and
vegetables. A little
of the seasoned flour mixture can be used to make gravy
to go with that fried
chicken, too!
~ Is it worth it? If you are a two
income family, sit down and take a long hard
look at how much it is costing you to work
outside the home. Consider all
expenses- childcare, gasoline, car payments
and auto insurance, fast food
lunches, clothing, taxes... not to
mention time and resources you could be
spending on your family, and possibly your
health and sanity. How much
are you really clearing?
Reach for the
Stars!
(This is a follow up to my article from the February 3 issue
of this newsletter.
Often, we look at setting goals for our lives are serious,
boring stuff. I used to think
of it as something that would interfere with just living life,
somehow having a "set of
goals" would lead to a sort of prescription for life, a rigid
plan. It would be something
not to be varied from, no matter what, because that was the
plan.
Of course, if those goals were not reached, it would mean
failure! We are taught that,
in many ways, through our schooling and employment.
Maybe even from our families.
But if they are goals for our own lives, aren't we in control
of them?
Life should be fun, full of joy! It is a journey.
And it changes, we get older, our circle
of friends change, people in our lives die, babies are born,
our needs and desires
change. Change does not mean failure. Change means
life. Our goals change.
If we look at how businesses form goals, generally they are based on a
mission and
a vision. What is your mission? What is the vision you have for
your life? What is
the outcome of the vision for you?
Yes, set huge, intangible goals! Only you
will be able to define them - or redefine
them. If your goal is to be happy, how will
you accomplish that? What things make
you happy, or will make you happier tomorrow if you
do them today? What brings
you joy?
Setting goals for these intangibles make the
details fall into place. If your vision or
outcome you desire is to be happy and healthy, and
losing 20 pounds will help you
reach that goal, what can you do today- right now-
to begin to make that happen?
Momentum is an incredible thing. Positive small steps can
snowball, creating positive
energy towards whatever direction you choose. A training I attend many
years ago left
me with one thing I will always remember:
Competence = Confidence = Positive Self Regard
Competence - the little steps we take when reach a piece of our goal -
each
thing we accomplish toward a goal builds our competency.
Confidence builds momentum, the 'I think I can' of the little train, pushes
us on our
way.
Positive Self Regard speaks to healthy self esteem, self worth, and
makes those
impossible goals seem possible.
And if you don't reach those stars, at least you know you
enjoyed the journey.
Bible
Verse
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For ye shall go out with joy, and be led
forth with peace:
the mountains and the hills shall break
forth before
you into singing, and
all the trees of the field
shall clap their hands.
